Weekends

Summer weekends find us enjoying life to the fullest - camping, exploring, beaching, paddling, biking or hiking - we don't spend much time at home.  This makes for jam packed weekdays as we try to unpack from one adventure, keep up with our usual routines, tend the garden, work and get ready for the next adventure.  While we couldn't sustain this pace all year round it suits us very well in the summertime.  There are just always so many things we want to do and places we want to visit that it makes the work of doing it very worthwhile to us.  This weekend was delightful for all of us.

There was mountain biking, a farm market (tomatoes!! and raspberries) and a picnic at the beach. E played around in the water collecting "seaweed" the whole time until he figured he had enough to fill a bathtub. ;-)
Our usual beach dinner is subs.  We bring the fixings in a cooler, spread out our blanket and everyone makes their own there.  But every once in awhile it is nice to bring along something different.  I was making sushi for a friend of mine and made a few extra rolls for us to enjoy as well.  Such a refreshing thing to eat on a super hot day.
More biking for the guys while I went garage saling, cherry picking and dipping in the creek then back up the mountain for some time on my own while they biked all day.
I had an amazing solitary hike up the mountain to the top then a run part way back down to meet up with the boys so I could take some photos of them (Then back up, then back down.  Whew!  Was I ever hungry by the time I got back to the condo that evening.).  Such fun.
I took some time to enjoy the view from the top.
Both times!
I had time to walk with E and learn some new (to us) plants while S and W biked hard.
Valerian
and Arnica.
We all had plenty of reading time in the evenings (I've just read such a good book that I had to read it twice). Then there was time to get those strawberries and then head to the beach for a quick visit with friends.  Then back to town to visit my garden briefly and ooh and ahh over our cukes (and sigh over how much more pruning my tomatoes need).
Oh, but weekends are good.  I do wish they lasted longer.  Hope yours was great too.

What was the book? It's the rare book that makes me want to turn right back to the beginning and start again!

I was going to ask the same thing...what was the book? I've been resisting the urge to start anything really good as I get so into it that I start to neglect my house and kids...but what was the book?? Love recommendations.

Amazing bike paths! Love the gear for them too. That is serious gear.

I probably should have said it is a non-fiction book, I tend to spend most my reading time on non-fiction. It's a fantastic book though, very insightful and full of interesting ideas for living a better life. It's called Change Your Mind and Your Life Will Follow: 12 Simple Principles. Here is a
link
to some pages from it. While I don't concur with all her ideas and beliefs I do find many of her ideas very useful and thought provoking.

Your life sounds parallel to ours right now, Heather. I just washed, sorted and put away everything from our busy and FUN weekend. The effort is worth it to us as well, and I find the energy from the fun carries me along throughout the week quite nicely.

Your weekend sounded wonderful! I miss my time hiking.

Great B&W photos, and great mountain biking action!! Where abouts is this park, if you don't mind sharing? My boys are so headed that direction, what with the strings of ramps and jumps that festoon the driveway some days ;-)

sounds like so much fun.
Interesting how your valerian looks different from the one I grow here. And how lovely to find wild Arnica..
The title of that book certainly make it seem worth a read, or two:) It is just so true.

That sushi looks divine.
Sounds like a gorgeous weekend. And I'm going to look into that book; I'm all about non-fiction as well. Anything that helps to support and validate our lifestyle and that offers wisdom for bettering myself as a mama, wife, person...I'm all for it. Thanks for sharing. -Debbie

Hi Erin

The mountain biking is at Silver Star mountain in Vernon. My family loves it there. They have bike trails for all levels of skill and there are plenty of spots to hike for me.
I hope you'll let me know if you do head up that way. We're not too far from there. ;-)

Absolutely! Silverstar, okay. The advantage to an area like that is that there is so much to do...maybe a Fall trip...hmmm. :-)
