Sometime ago I was reading an article, in either Mother Earth News or Harrowsmith, about different types of composters. The article asked what type of composter you are and then gave examples of several types of composting people. One that I remember was the Relaxed (lazy?) composter, this was a person who never turned their compost, but rather, threw it into a pile and hoped for the best. I read that description and thought, That's me! But, then I read the next type and that described a person who had many different kinds of compost containers. Well, with a three bin wood composter, made of recycled wood; two hand-me-down, black plastic type composters; a rotating barrel composter, that my husband built me; and various piles, and bags of leaves around in different stages of decomposition, I thought that one described me quite well too. But then, then I read another description - The Hoarder - and I thought, Ah!
This is a pic of a pile of leaves that my boys brought home for me in the Fall, I only got as far as dumping it in the entrance to my garden. My guys all know that there isn't much that I like more than them bringing me home lawn clippings or leaves. :-)

that's sooooooooo funny. i read that article too and i fit all the headings too! and some parts of the year i fit the other one too -- the one who's messing almost tooo much with her composts!
normally in the Spring I'd be emptying a few bags onto my raspberries and then heaping manure on top...
i'm sure you know about oak leaves? they're unlike any other leaf mulch. they reduce the incidence of cutworms and other pests!! so i'm ALWAYS looking for people with oak trees to put their bags of leaves out! might want to put that but into your mens' ears too...
compost talk gets me going ;o) LOL
now's the time to be saving your urine (and asking your men to go out and pee on the composts). Brian Mintner recommends putting 20-0-0 fertilizer on composts in early spring. that's pretty close to what urine is!
yeah, so that's not lemonade in the jar on the back of the toilet... when you come visit ;o)
Note to self : get more oak leaves.
Thanks, Mary-Sue.
