A Shawl to...Share?

Last week I finally picked up the needles to finish this shawl that I had started back in November to use up a bunch of odds and ends out of my yarn stash.  It was meant to be a gift when I started it before Christmas but I ended up making a different one for that person so this one ended up being for me...although my cat seems to be pretty sure it was meant for her.
I tossed it at the foot of the bed when I was done knitting it because I thought I would wear it over my shoulders when I was sitting up in bed reading at night.  Putty had a different idea and every time I go into the bedroom, there she is...hogging it!
I should have known this was going to happen by the way she always came to sit on it whenever I was knitting it and scowled at me each time I dared to move it a bit as I was knitting.  I actually had to pick her up and move her so that I could "borrow" it long enough to get these pics taken.
 Now she's miffed!

It's a beautiful shawl--I especially love the edging.

That looks very toasty.
I have the same cat problem, although when I am actually doing the knitting they push the knitting off my lap - my hands need to be doing other important things (belly rubs) apparently.

Hi Heather, I like this shawl so much and was wondering what size needles you used.

Lucky for you I don't live closer. I think this would find it's way home with me. Boy, would Putty be really miffed then! lol

Bee-you-tee-ful shawl! And I think anyone with cats has pretty much the same problem...they love what we want.

Thanks CMarie, I'm sorry I don't know what size these needles are - they're much bigger than my gauge will measure( the highest on my gauge is size 15 US or 10mm and they are quite a bit bigger than that). However, the reason I used such big needles is because I wanted to use up lots of yarn and was using 5 strands at once. You could certainly use smaller needles and less yarn. You'll find the pattern on ravelry - it was called Herb Garden Shawl and I think it used much smaller needles. Hope that helps.

Hi Heather, I checked out the site with the pattern but I still like the husky texture of your shawl better! I am knitting a shoulder-type shawl using 10.5 (6.5mm) sized needles and it is taking longer than I like. Next time I will use larger needles too. Take good care :)

so beautiful heather! i just tried using two yarns to make a chunky cowl (because i was unable to find a chunky yarn in the colors i wanted) but it wouldn't come together very well...maybe the needles need to go down a size or two. it is the 'rime frost cowl', and i'm quite determined to make it, so i hope to find the yarn tomorrow and get it done soon.

this shawl is perfect on you, i can just see you wearing it on a chilly market morning :)
