I have done houses with my boys in the past (one memorable year W's house was eaten by a dog that we babysit) but this year it will just be gingerbread men.
E was determined to make the dough on his own. Once it was done we all got in on cutting out shapes.
E had just finished reading Gingerbread Cowboy so he wanted to make his own gingerbread cowboy man instead of using the cookie cutter. See his big cowboy boots? One poor fellah had his leg fall off so, naturally ;-), this made me think of Monty Python's poor black knight. My lucky boys got to listen to me quote the Black knight (in a very poor British accent) until W finally ate the bit of leg in an attempt to end his mama's silliness. ;-)
"None shall pass", "...just a flesh wound" and "...I'll bite your leg off." My poor children.
Mmmmm! I love gingerbread!
ReplyDeleteYour gingerbread looks full of whole grain goodness... care to share the recipe?
ReplyDeleteHi Katherine
ReplyDeleteIt is the same recipe that I usually use (and I think the one you use too?) but it just has that heavier grainworks flour this time so it looks a bit more whole grainy, I think. Here it is:
Gingerbread Cookies
5 cups wholewheat flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tsp powdered ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup oil
2 eggs
1 cup blackstrap molasses
2 tbsp vinegar
Mix dry ingredients in one bowl. Mix wet ingredients in another bowl. Combine the two mixtures and mix well to make a dough. Roll out on floured board and use cookie cutters to cut into shapes. Bake at 350 for 10 - 12 minutes.
